USA: Climate & Weather
The climate of the United States is not as diverse as one might expect given the immensity of its territory.
It is a temperate climate for most of the regions with the most significant variations depending on latitude: The temperatures are higher in the south, the seasons are better defined in the north. For example, the Rocky Mountains have a continental climate with cold harsh winters which are sometimes softened by a warm, dry wind called a "Chinook", and experience hot and stormy summers. Southern California enjoys a Mediterranean climate with temperate winters and dry summers. The Colorado Plateau boasts several national parks and experiences blistering hot summers and snowy winters. The desert regions of the southwest obviously have very hot summers. You will need to consider all this data to choose the best time to travel, but avoid the summer if you want to escape the influx of tourists. Autumn and spring are the best times to visit most of the places, including New York: In April, May, June, September and October, you will avoid the harsh winters that have temperatures reaching down to -20 ° C, and also the hot summers in some areas. |
