A city in Texas in the United States of America, Houston has a population of just over two million. The scene of many skyscrapers it still has however some very old buildings such as those from the 18th Century around the Old Market Square and the reconstruction of an old shopping street from the same time in Long Row. The tourists that visit Houston make a point of visiting the Space Centre, the only NASA site that is open to the public, where the discovery of space is presented in an educational and interesting way. There is also the zoo that boasts over 4,500 species of exotic animals, the Museum of Natural Science in Hermann Park and a multitude of different plants and trees throughout the city. On the artistic front, Houston has a symphony orchestra, an opera, a ballet company and a dynamic theatre. Several museums are worth a visit, particularly the .the Menil Collection, the Contemporary Arts Museum and the Heritage Society Museum. Another attraction of the city is its proximity to the coast and pleasure ports as well as sunny beaches. You can get around easily by car as the road system is practical as very efficient which unfortunately does not mean there are no traffic jams! Try and avoid visiting in the summer as temperatures can be very high and the humidity difficult to cope with for many people.
