The main city of Washington State in the United States, Seattle has a little over 600,000 inhabitants, but its agglomeration boasts a population of nearly three and a half million. Surrounded by forests and lakes, the city is great for enjoying outdoor activities. It is built on several hills, and is crossed by a channel. It benefits from a maritime climate, with quasi Mediterranean summers, mild winters and relatively frequent rainfall throughout the year. A major regional centre for performing arts, the city also hosts many events including a book fair, film festival, bike race, etc. and has many museums: the Art Henry Art Gallery, Seattle Art Museum and the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture Museum are just a few. You can also visit the zoo and aquarium, and the famous Experience Music Project; a cultural centre and interactive museum dedicated to Jimi Hendrix among others and Rock'n'roll. Some city monuments should definitely be visited such as the Space Needle with its 185 meters high, the Columbia Center building, the Chapel of St. Ignatius, and the central library. Buses and trams facilitate travel around the city, which is also served by an international airport.
