Mauritius: Climate & Weather

The climate is tropical with variations according to the season and area.

From January to April it is predominantly hot weather with high humidity and temperatures of around 25°C to 30°C. There is a possibility of cyclones at this time although happily these are unusual. The cooler temperatures occur between July and September; normally less than 25°C, which is still quite warm!

You can visit Mauritius all year round without any problems: Surfers generally prefer the months of June, July and August and the divers find conditions optimal between September and March.

What to do in Mauritius

Port-Louis, the capital that has terrible traffic, will seduce you principally by the colourful sights and fragrances of its market but also its mosque and the Natural History Museum.

Curepipe, in the interior of the island, has a charming English style with its teas and its stunning botanical gardens. Just outside the city, the extinguished crater of Trou-aux-Cerfs, the Tamarind waterfall and the Black River Gorges National Park are all worth a visit.

You should not miss the botanical gardens of Pamplemousses, where you can find various fascinating plant species such as the Giant Water Lilies and the Gold Bamboo among many others.

The north of the island, which is popular with tourists, offers amazing white sand beaches, coral reefs and various resort towns with hotel complexes which can be a little crowded, particularly Grande Baie and Trou-aux-Biches.

In Mauritius you can visit Rodrigues, its small-scale replica, which will give you the opportunity to enjoy some pleasant walks and also offers beautiful dive spots.

During the different stages of your journey through this fascinating island you will be entranced by the warmth and colours, an effect felt as much from the places visited as by the residents.
