What to do in Mahebourg : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Small, charming city of Mauritius, Mahébourg is located on the coast southeast of the island and has about 16,000 residents. Built at the edge of a lagoon, it is served by the international airport of Plaisance, which is also the only one on the island. Its colonial past shines through the grid of streets and the typical architecture of its houses. You can also visit the National History Museum which mainly traces the maritime history of the island, the Rault biscuit factory which dates from 1870 and whose cassava recipe is kept secret, the covered market and its colorful and attractive stalls the mosque, but the harbor and turquoise water fringed beaches. Do not miss a trip to Ile aux Aigrettes, nearby nature reserve. Mahébourg also offers many places, street stalls or restaurants where you can sample local cuisine, often delicious. To move in the city, which is not very wide, walking is perfect, and nearby there are buses and taxis.
