Capital of Iran, Tehran has 9 million inhabitants and its metropolitan area gathers almost 15 million. It has grown tremendously in recent decades after the first oil shock, and its economy is also based on industries such as automotive, electrical equipment, weaponry, textiles. The city is located at 1,000 meters above sea level, and the highest areas are 1700 meters in the foothills of the Alborz Mountains, making them cooler and less polluted in summer: residential villas found there, embassies, the parks.
