What to do in Sydney : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The most populous city in Australia, Sydney has four and a half million inhabitants. Located on the southeast coast of the continent and built on a wide bay, it was founded in 1788 and today represents an important economic and tourist centre. The city is characterised by its many national parks and beaches scattered throughout the urban area. It experiences a humid subtropical climate, with mild winters, hot summers, and a high degree of sunlight. The most notable monument in the city is the famous Opera House, with five halls and unique architecture, classified as a World Heritage site by Unesco. The Harbour Bridge is another symbolic site of the city. A number of festivals and cultural events are hosted by Sydney including the Sydney Festival, with various events, in January, the Big Day Out rock music festival, and the film festival,. You can also visit various museums: the National Maritime Museum, the New South Wales Art Gallery and the Australian Museum among others. The zoos and aquariums in the city are also worth a visit, and if you drive along the coast from Bondi to Bronte, you may be lucky enough to see dolphins and whales play in the Pacific waters. Foodies will not be disappointed: the cuisine has a superb cultural diversity and you will have no trouble finding quality restaurants.
