What to do in San Juan : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of Puerto Rico, San Juan has just over 400 000 inhabitants and is the economic center of the island. Its port is the largest in the Caribbean, and its size puts it in second place after New York. The city has an amazing architectural mix of skyscrapers and colonial buildings, and includes three distinct areas: the old town, the hotel zone and beaches, and the ancient city of Rio Pedras which is today ' hui attached to San Juan. Several sites are worth seeing in San Juan: the old town on a small island and declared World Heritage Site, with its pastel-colored houses and cobbled streets; Fort San Felipe del Morro, built in the 16th century to protect the bay; the Museum of African Heritage; Museum Casa Blanca; the ramparts ; Plaza de Hostos; Bacardi rum, rum manufacturing center; Castillo de San Jeronimo; St. John the Baptist Cathedral; the Contemporary Art Museum. In the vicinity, you can also visit the Island of Goats and the El Yunque National Forest, rainforest, protected space where you can browse different trails. For lovers of nightlife, do not miss the district of Condado, with its restaurants and bars, or Sojo, the trendy area of the city, near the Plaza de Colon. There are in San Juan an international airport, and go to town, metro and bus are very convenient. You can also take a taxi, provided to choose the "touristic" whose prices are regulated.
