What to do in Koh Lanta : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The archipelago comprises around fifty islands, but one of Koh Lanta Yai is the best known, most (6km wide and 30 km long) and most touristy. Located in the south of Thailand, off the Andaman coast, the place is famous for its diving sites, white sand beaches and beautiful scenery. You will arrive by air via Krabi or Phuket, where you take the Transfer Express (minivan + speedboat) to get to Koh Lanta in a half hour. On site, you can travel in motorcycle taxi, or rent a Jeep. You will visit the village of Lanta Old Town, on the east coast, with its mix of cultures, its Chinese merchants and Thai fishermen, small shops selling handicrafts; the caves of Khao Mai Kaew, in the center of the island, with their rock formations with impressive stalactites and stalagmites; Sea-Gypsy Village, where gather the "sea gypsies", with their own customs and their language apart; Orchid Nursery Farm Park and its multitudes of orchids. Several beaches around the island, and they each have their appeal: Kor Kwang and transparent waters; Klong Khong and his coconut plantation; Kan Tiang and corals. Activities to do: diving course, a spa, a traditional massage, kayak canoeing, hiking, a ride on an elephant.
