The capital of Australia’s Northern Territory, Darwin has around 120,000 inhabitants. The city has a multi-ethnical population, in particular a large Aboriginal populace. Start your exploration of Darwin in its numerous markets and parks, as well as the beaches. Visit the George Brown botanical Gardens to see the orchids and traditional Aboriginal plants, the Berry Springs National Park and find out about crocodiles at the Crocodylus Park. There is also the Northern Territory Museum where you can learn about Aboriginal history and heritage. About an hour by car outside the city is the Litchfield National Park, well worth a visit to see the waterfalls, the wildlife and virgin forest. If you prefer to remain in the city then there are plenty of barbecue areas and fountains available for you to enjoy an enjoyable impromptu barbecue. Here are two other museums that are also worth a visit; the Military Museum with its collection of war planes and pieces of heavy artillery, and the Art and Science Museum.
