What to do in Alice Springs : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Situated in the Australian desert, Alice Springs is a city of around 20,000 inhabitants, around 70% aboriginal. The city benefits from a dry climate with fairly cool nights. The city itself has no particularly notable features but is the departure point for visitors who wish to explore the Australian outback; hiking, 4 X 4, quad, bathing in the water holes, camping in the bush, or even prospecting for precious stones. A number of festivals and cultural events punctuate the calendar all year round including the Alice Desert Festival with its Visual Arts and entertainments, and sporting events such as horse races and regattas. The Art route celebrates Aboriginal culture. These are just a few notable examples of the rich cultural life at Alice Springs but there is much more to attract visitors such as discovering the majestic beauty of the Outback at dawn aboard a hot air balloon or experiencing part of the local history through a camel ride along the dry Todd River.
