What to do in Windhoek : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of Namibia, Windhoek has just under 300 thousand inhabitants. Built at an altitude of 1,650 metres, the city is located in a semi-desert region and experiences an arid climate with very hot summer days and cool nights. The city is the economic and geographic heart of the country, and its central location makes it a hub for tourists who plan to visit the Namibian desert or Estoha Park. But the city itself is not devoid of charm and is well worth a visit. You can find the Lutheran Church in the city centre, which is the symbol of the capital, and the old German fort near the equestrian statue of Curt von François, there is the seat of government, as well as the Cathedral of St. Mary and the old station. Do take time to browse along Independence Avenue, and see the meteorite fountain and Alfes State Museum with its old locomotive. You'll have no trouble finding hotels and restaurants in the city, which is also served by an international airport.
