What to do in Warsaw : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants

WarsawThe capital of Poland, Warsaw has more than 1.7 million inhabitants. It is located on the Vistula River and represents a major economic and cultural centre for the country. Conflicts in its past have led several times to the city’s destruction and reconstruction, and the old town is now a Unesco World Heritage Site. You can visit the Jewish cemetery, the entirely rebuilt Royal Castle, the Palace of Culture and Science offered by Stalin, Theatre Square with its classical style buildings, the Krakow suburbs, the elegant Ujazdowskie Avenue, Wilanów palace and its French Gardens, and Nozyk Synagogue, which survived the Second World War. Several museums worth visiting include the National Museum, the Contemporary Art Centre and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Theatres and opera houses are part of everyday life; do not forget that this is the city of Chopin! The city is served by an international airport, and public transportation is very good: The bus, tram, and metro service enable fast and efficient travel. Warsaw restaurants generally seem fairly low priced and offer simple and hearty food, obviously washed down with vodka!
