What to do in Tulum : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Located in the southeast of Mexico, in the Yucatan peninsula, Tulum is built at the edge of the Caribbean Sea and integrated in the eponymous national park. The city has about 18,000 inhabitants and is located 130 km from Cancun. Archaeological site of an ancient Mayan city, its foundation dates back to the year 569, and was probably abandoned during the 16th century. The city of Tulum today combines the discovery of the culture and a privileged nature, with beaches with turquoise waters and steep cliffs combined to form an unforgettable scenery. There is in particular a beautiful beach at the foot of Castillo, you reach by a staircase leading from the cliff. First visit the very quiet town, then climb up the walls to admire the Temple of the Frescoes, in the center of the city, and the best preserved buildings; Castillo, the most impressive monuments; the House of the Cenote, a sacred site where there were fresh water sources. You can also discover the Mayan inscriptions, and other buildings less well preserved but always interesting. Tulum is accessed by the Cancun International Airport, then by taxi or rental car to the town of Tulum, or by bus (about 2 hours drive). In the city, there are many taxis and mini-vans called collectivos circulating constantly. Bicycles can also easily rent, there is even a bike path that leads to the beach.
