What to do in Tashkent : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent has about 2.7 million inhabitants. Located in the east of the country, the city has a continental climate with mild snowy winters, and warm dry summers. You can visit the bazaars and covered markets of the city, with colourful lines and mounds of fruit and condiments, and you will enjoy the airy aspect of the green city, with its fountains and its vegetables. You may wish to visit the archaeological site in Oq-Tepa district, the mosque in the Imam Khazrat centre dating from the 10th Century, and the mausoleum of Abubakr Mukhammed Kaffal Chachi. From the Soviet era, you can visit the Theatre of Opera and Alisher Navoi Ballet, or the Clock Tower in the centre of the city. Several museums are worth a visit including the Museum of Applied Arts and the Museum of Fine Arts among others. You will certainly notice the eye-catching decoration unique to each subway station in the city, the metro will also greatly facilitate your transport around Tashkent. It is also served by an international airport.
