Town in the far north of Vietnam, Sapa (or Sa Pa) is located 1500 meters above sea level and has about 150 000 inhabitants. Known particularly for its rice terraces and colorful markets, the place is very touristy, but we can get a little off the beaten track and discover beautiful sites, and a wide ethnic diversity. You will first of all astonished at the appearance of the city, lost in the mist, and by the traditional costumes covered by different ethnic groups, you have the opportunity to notice when the mountaineers of the area come join the Sapa market and this almost every day. In addition, the embroidery is a popular craft in the Sapa area, and you can purchase beautiful embroidered items. There is no airport for Sapa, so you should take the overnight train from Hanoi. There are also bus with berths for taking the same route. In Sapa and all around we are essentially moving on foot, since trekking is the most popular activity in the region.
