What to do in San Jose : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The capital of Costa Rica in Central America, San Jose has about 350,000 inhabitants and nearly two million if we count the entire agglomeration. Situated on a plateau in the centre of the country, the city, founded in the 18th Century can be easily visited on foot. It retains traces of its rich past, which does not prevent it from displaying a modern appearance. There are a number of interesting museums and forts, such as the magnificent Gold Museum, or the Jade Museum, which represents the largest collection of pre-Columbian jade on the continent, admire the National Theatre and the Place de la Culture, wander around the Central Market, or discover the Simon Bolivar Zoo, with its hundreds of years old trees. In addition, you can participate in events such as the International Theatre Festival in November, the Urban Art Festival in September, or Columbus Day in October. It is relatively easy to find accommodation in the city, there is a wide range of hotels of all levels and prices. For eating out, you can enjoy regional cuisine in a number of restaurants around the city.
