Provisions for travellers


Entry to the territory: Allowed
Passengers are allowed to enter Mongolia from the first week of June 2021. But that’s only for airline passengers.

The country’s borders still remain closed for passengers on land transport.

Entry requirements to Mongolia

-All passengers must present a negative Covid-19 PCR test which is taken within 72 hours before arrival.
-All persons arriving in Mongolia who have not been fully vaccinated against coronavirus infection (COVID-19) shall be quarantined at designated facilities for 7 days and PCR tests shall be taken on the 3rd and 6th days.
-The quarantine will end if there are no symptoms and the results of PCR tests are negative.
-In case, PCR test results are positive, an individual shall be transferred to a hospital for treatment.
-Persons arriving in Mongolia 14 days after receiving the full dose of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine or those who were diagnosed earlier with a coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and fully recovered from it shall be exempted from quarantine.

Current Domestic Travel Restrictions

-Domestic flights, trains, and intercity buses run under the control of the State Emergency Commission.
-All of the hotels and leisure places are closed for an uncertain time.
-All attractions and sightseeing nationwide are closed for an uncertain time.
-For those who want to travel to another region:
* Before you travel, get tested with a viral test 24-48 hours before your departure;
* During travel, wear a mask and stay at least 1,5-2 meters from people, wash your
hands or use hand sanitizer;
* Within 72 hours, reaching your destination is a must;
* 7-14 days home isolation is mandatory when you arrive at your destination.

Tests: Negative PCR test is required for all countries.

Lockdown: Yes
1. Restaurants, fast foods and coffeeshops are allowed to service for those who fully vaccinated. However, the service area must operate at 50% occupancy. The delivery food services work normally.

2. For those who received 2 doses of coronavirus vaccine, PCR is not required or restricted to travel rural areas and to enter cities.
3. Canceled all activities of culture, entertainment and leisure, retails, and public events.
4. Some branches that serve citizens 14 days after receiving two doses of coronavirus vaccine: Hair & Beauty salons, gym, pool, yoga classes.
5. Restriction on risky services such as:

-Demonstrations, rallies, competitions;
-Travel, weddings, banquets and receptions;
-All kinds of bars;
-Extended and trade;
-Non-food markets and trade centers (It is allowed to operate under special conditions and preparations of “Temporary procedure for organizing coronavirus infection prevention measures” approved by the Order No. 18 of the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia in 2021);
-Electronic and slot games and all kinds of game centers;
-Education Center (allowed to serve citizens 14 days after receiving two doses of coronavirus vaccine)
-Cultural events and entertainment;
-Relaxation center;
-Hotel & Inns (allowed to serve citizens 14 days after receiving two doses of coronavirus vaccine);
-Fitness and fitness center (allowed to serve citizens 14 days after receiving two doses of coronavirus vaccine);
-Sauna, swimming pool (allowed to serve citizens 14 days after receiving two doses of coronavirus vaccine);
-Public bath;
-Recreation and tourist area;
-Religious ceremonies, churches, monasteries and places of worship;
-Physical education and sports events other than preparation for the Olympics, continental, world and international competitions;
-Children’s playground and basketball and football field;
-Public dance and all kinds of dance clubs.

All government agencies, hospitals, police, State emergency commission, and legal entities nationwide are normally working.

Festival & Event Closures and Cancellations due to COVID-19

A number of festivals and events, festival in Mongolia have been cancelled in alignment with the government’s directive to avoid public gatherings:

-Tsagaan Sar – Lunar New Year Celebration in February. As holiday celebrations create public gatherings and increase the risk of infection spread, the Cabinet deemed it
proper not to celebrate the Tsagaan Sar extensively.
-Thousand Camel Festival in Gobi Desert in March – Cancelled
-Ice Festival at Khuvsgul Lake in March – Cancelled. Mong
