What to do in Dili : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of East Timor, Dili has 150 000 inhabitants and lies on the north coast of the island, surrounded by mountains. It has an international airport, but its relatively short track can not accommodate larger aircraft than Boeing 737. It was bombed and suffered numerous fires that have left few traces of past centuries. Most of its new buildings do not exceed 5 floors, and this gives it a pleasantly provincial aspect. The city is poor, but you can visit some tourist sites, like the Chinese cemetery, the cultural center, the Balinese Hindu shrine, the Motael pink and white cathedral, Holy column Mary Cemetery Santa Cruz, and close to the city building Cristo Rei, dedicated to Christ the King, a statue of 30 meters high. Do not miss the market to tissues. To travel around the city, taxis are easy to find at very affordable rates. There are also mikrolets, minibus crossing the city in all directions for a low price, and you will of course have the opportunity to rent a car. Question accommodation you will find what you accommodate between 10 and 200 dollars depending on your level requirement, the cheapest being a room in a guesthouse.
