What to do in Bishkek : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek is situated in the north about 800 meters, and has 700 000 inhabitants. Become an important industrial city, it is also the cultural center of the country, but its recent building deprives it of ancient monuments, and its plan is based on perpendicular lines and right angles, luckily softened by a rich vegetation among which we can find more than 300 species, with the decor covered mountains nearby snow. In addition the architecture of modern buildings was largely inspired by the traditions, with very present oriental features. You could for example be visiting the Historical Museum, which traces the country's history from the Neolithic through jewelry, costumes and weapons; Dubovy the park or oak park, built in the 19th century, the largest of the city that also houses a collection of wooden statues, stone or metal representing Kyrgyz or Russian officials; the Ala-Too Square, central square took place in 2005 anti-government demonstration in the Tulip Revolution; Monument of Victory in the square of the same name; the Russian Orthodox church with light blue dome; Opera and Ballet National neoclassical style; the National Museum of Fine Arts for its collections of embroideries and beautiful paintings; bathhouses Jirgal Banya and Toktogul with their domes and their cozy interior, where you can also enjoy a massage and flog you in Russian fashion! To move around the city, there are several means of transport: bus, very cheap minibus taxis, but the roads are bad and are poorly maintained. If you arrive in Bishkek by plane, you land at Manas International Airport, located 25 km northwest of the capital.
