What to do in Tripoli : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The capital of Libya, Tripoli has just over a million and a half inhabitants. Located northwest of the country, it is built on the edge of the desert and on the Mediterranean shoreline. It has a long and rich history, and there are many sites that are interesting for visitors. The city experiences a Mediterranean climate, with cool winters and hot, dry summers. You can visit the Medina, the old fortified town dating from Roman times, the Red Castle, a vast palace with statues and Ottoman fountains, the Gurgi and Karamanli mosques, the ramparts from where you can admire a beautiful panoramic view, also the Clock Tower and the Monument at the port. Several museums are also worth a visit including the Ethnographic Museum, the National Archives, the Archaeological Museum, and the Museum of Islam. Do take a walk in the alleys of the souk where merchants offer a warm welcome and are not pushy, or simply enjoy a coffee and a hookah in one of the popular cafes. You will find hotels of all categories in the city, and restaurants offering delicious Tunisian specialties.
