What to do in Tirana : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The capital of Albania, Tirana has over 700,000 inhabitants. The city experiences a Mediterranean climate, with wet, mild winters and dry, hot summers, modulated by a continental influence that sometimes causes colder winters. It is served by an international airport. Founded in the 17th Century, the city really developed during the 20th, and you can visit a number of notable sites including the Tabakkane Bridge from the Ottoman period, Skanderbeg Square with its fascist style buildings, the Clock Tower, the Et'hem Bey Mosque built in the 18th Century, the Pyramid, and the Palace of Culture, among others. Several museums are also worth a visit such as the Natural History Museum, the National History Museum and the Museum of Archaeology. Do not miss the Tabakhev Bridge with its typical 18th Century architecture, or the Martyrs' Cemetery which offers an incomparable view of the city. Nature lovers will enjoy a stroll along the banks of the Lana. You can also enjoy some of the local cuisine without spending a fortune in one of the many city restaurants, many of which have an excellent reputation for quality.
