What to do in Saint-Paul : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
French town on the west coast in the island of Reunion, Saint-Paul has just over 104 000 inhabitants and part circus Matafe is on its territory. the oldest town in the island, it was once the capital, and today offers visitors undeniable advantages, firstly because of its rich past and also thanks to superb well preserved nature. It is better, however, to avoid to get there between December and April, which is the cyclone season. You can visit the many shopping streets of the city center; the marine cemetery which is the oldest of the island, some tombs are remarkable for their pompous splendor; the cave where legend has it that the first French settlers had spent the night landing on the island; the Town Hall Square, wide and shaded, with its central fountain and gravel driveways; the market that takes place every Friday and Saturday morning on the waterfront for its multiple smells and colors and lively atmosphere; Grand Court, a beautiful colonial house built in the 18th century, with its walls of volcanic stone or brick. Night owls will find bars and nightclubs on the waterfront, and athletes can make beautiful walks in the circus Matafe. One reaches St. Paul by plane landing at Roland Garros airport, and for travel within the city, you can rent a car or take a taxi (beware, prices are high!).
