Italy's capital, Rome, has almost three million inhabitants. Located on the River Tiber, the city has a history that spans more than twenty-five centuries, and its many sumptuous traces make it one of the most popular European cities. Its centre is listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site. The city enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot, dry summers. It is obviously impossible to mention all the places that deserve a visit in Rome, as they are numerous and cover various periods, from Antiquity to the Renaissance and include the Colosseum, Constantine’s Arch, the Capitol, the catacombs, Farnese Palazzo, Navona Piazza, and the Trevi Fountain as interesting places. Many museums are also open to visits; the National Museum, the Borghese Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Vatican Museums are examples among others. The city is served by three airports and several stations. Accommodation in Rome is quite expensive, but alternative possibilities exist to hotels, especially in religious institutions. You can eat well and at very affordable prices at certain places and pizzerias often offer the best quality/price ratio. For travelling around the city, bus, tram and metro are present, but you will also need good shoes as certain neighbourhoods are not served as well as others.
