What to do in Porto : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
A city in Portugal, Porto has 240,000 inhabitants, but about two million including the entire metropolitan area. Located on the Atlantic coast, the city gave its name to the country. It benefits from a Mediterranean climate with oceanic influences, and is quite wet but sunny. Many sites and monuments attract tourists such as the historic centre which is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. You can visit the Sé Cathedral, the Torre dos Clérigos, the Maria Pia Bridge, admire the tile panels in the Sao Bento railway station, the Crystal Palace, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the gothic style St. Francis Church. You can also see the quays along the Douro with their typical tall, narrow houses. There are five subway lines to facilitate movement around the city, which is served by an airport and several motorways. The city is also renowned for its wine, and universally popular aperitif. For your accommodation, you will find a wide range of hotels, guest houses, hostels and campsites. The city residents are generally very nice and friendly, like most other places throughout Portugal.
