What to do in Minsk : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of the Republic of Belarus, Minsk has 1.7 million inhabitants. Located in the centre of the country, it experiences a continental climate, warmer than Russia, but with frequent fogs and heavy snow in winter. The city is connected by a highway to Moscow and has an underground metro of around twenty stations, as well as buses and trams. An international airport serves several European capitals. The city is an important industrial centre, but also the cultural centre of the country, with many theatres and museums as well as dozens of libraries. Also note the presence of the Minsk Circus, one of the largest in Europe. You can visit the National Museum of Fine Arts, with its collections of various origins, the National Museum of Culture and History of Belarus and the National Library installed in a superb and imposing modern building. Unfortunately, you will find few traces of the ancient history of the city because of the bombing from the two world wars that hit it hard. However you may wish to visit the Trinity Faubourg neighbourhood with its picturesque houses, several churches, Republic Palace and St. Mary's Cathedral.
