Irish city with 50 000 inhabitants, Limerick is located in the southwest of the country, the River Shannon. Former industrial town, it gradually becomes a dynamic city where culture plays an ever more important, and tourists are warmly welcomed there. Several sites to discover in Limerick King John's Castle, built on King's Island in the city center, is an imposing fortress dating back to 1200; Limerick City Museum, dedicated to the history of the city and its region, and offers visitors exhibitions and collections of archaeological remains; St Mary's Cathedral, built in 1168, which is also the oldest building in the city, with its beautiful stained glass windows and huge chandeliers 5; Bourke's House, a medieval manor house, also in the historical district, of which only a wall today; Fanning the Castel's house around which there remains the ruins; the Hunt Museum, art museum and antiquities, with collections covering a period from the Neolithic to the 20th century; stone of the Treaty, where the Treaty of Limerick was signed in 1691. Do not miss to enjoy the friendly atmosphere of the pubs in town, or stroll along the banks of the Shannon in the picturesque Arthur's Quay Park. As one of the main tourist destinations in Ireland, Limerick is accessible by plane at Shannon Airport, 30 minutes by road, which connects the city to several cities in Europe and North America. There is also a railway station serving Dublin, Cork, Waterford and Ennis, and buses to reach the cities of the county. For trips into town, you can choose between bus, taxi or rental car.
