What to do in Grenoble : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants

GrenobleCity in south-east France, Grenoble is the largest metropolis of the Alps and has just over 160 000 inhabitants. It already existed in Roman times and is built at the confluence of Isere and Drac. Dominated by an old fortress, the Bastille, 475 meters above sea level, the old town is marked by its old layout, with narrow streets, but it spread much over the centuries: it remains nevertheless one of the cities densest France. Grenoble has many historical monuments and the old town is worth a visit, with its Grenette square in the center, now lined with cafes and restaurants, the Grande Rue, ancient Roman road, the Saint-André square with the statue the Chevalier Bayard, the Place aux Herbes and its market, and mansions scattered around. See, the Stendhal high school and its solar clock, the St. Lawrence bridge suspended over the Isère, the Verdun square and beautiful buildings like the old library-museum. The 20th century also left its mark, and the best example is the cable car that goes to the Bastille, but the park Paul Mistral with the Perret tower and the helical garage. Note the large number of green spaces that aerate the city, the oldest of which is the Jardin de Ville, former castle park of the Duke of Lesdiguières, and fountains that dot the streets and squares, some of which are outstanding. You can also visit several museums. Grenoble is accessed by motorway (A41 from Geneva, the A48 from Lyon), by rail (the agglomeration has 7 stations) and by air with Grenoble-Isère International Airport . To get around the city, the tram is very convenient (5 lines) but there are also buses (25 lines) and above 320 km of bicycle paths, making it one of the densest networks in the country.
