Provisions for travellers


Entry to the territory: Partially Allowed
Foreign citizens from a limited number of countries are now allowed to enter Georgia by air under the following conditions:

(1) Unrestricted entry for citizens of any country who have documentary proof of having received a full course of COVID vaccination.

(2) Other travellers can enter Georgia dependent on submitting a travel history in advance and holding a negative PCR test taken within the previous 72 hours. You must take a further PCR test at your own expense on your third day in Georgia.

(3) Of particular relevance to UK citizens - following the discovery of a new strain of coronavirus in the UK, the Georgian Government announced that anyone entering Georgia who has been in the UK within the previous 14 days must undergo a mandatory 12-day quarantine. This requirement applies to all nationalities and all entry or visa routes. Full details are on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website

Certain foreign citizens who seek to enter Georgia for a long-term visit of at least 6 months to work as a freelancer or self-employed, who will be required to apply online for advance permission to enter. For foreign citizens who are permitted entry, most will face compulsory 8-12 day quarantine depending on where they have flown in from, an antigen rapid test and possibly a PCR test depending on the result of the first test. Arrangements for business travel are different.

Indian citizens and people flying in from India may be expected to quarantine for 14 days on arrival.

Large celebratory gatherings such as weddings remain banned.

Shops have reopened.

Almost all COVID-19 related restrictions, including the curfew, have now been lifted.

Museums, gyms and, to a limited extent, theatres have re-opened. Nightclubs remain restricted.

Masks are mandatory in public places indoors but are no longer mandatory outdoors – although still recommended. Social distancing requirements remain in place. It is mandatory to wear masks inside shops, hotels and restaurants and at bus stops. Failing to do so can result in a 20 Lari fine for an individual or 500 Lari for a legal entity.
