What to do in Essaouira : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
City of Morocco located on the Atlantic coast, Essaouira, the former Mogador, has about 80 000 inhabitants and is a tourist destination since the late 20th century. Refreshed by the sea breeze, Essaouira offers the traveler an unexpected image of Morocco and incomparable light, with its harbor so alive with floating blue fishing boats, its ramparts, its all white medina, its vast beach. you get there by plane from Paris, or by road from Marrakech (170 km away), and it moves on foot or by taxi. Just a peaceful and invigorating atmosphere that is worth the trip, but there are also many interesting sights: the bustling harbor, see when returning from fishing, with the cries of seagulls in the background; skala of the kasbah Road along the fortifications which joined the Medina; the ramparts, and the bastion of Bab Marrakech; Ben Youssef Mosque; instead Moukay Hassan surrounded by cafes and shops; the streets of the medina and souks, where the local population is much larger than the tourists. During your walks, do not miss the craft shops where to buy ceramics, jewelry, carpets, argan oil (it is THE specialty of the city), leather goods or cedar, visit artists' galleries and attend a concert of Gnawa music, plus breaks to grab a mint tea on the shady squares. A magical city that you will not forget!
