What to do in Conakry : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of Guinea, Conakry two million and a half inhabitants. Situated to the west of the country, the city was first built on an island, then overflowed on the nearby peninsula. To move around, you can use the bus service, individual or collective taxis, or rent a car if you can afford it. In the neighboring islands there are ferries. There are many sites to visit in the city: the National Museum with its archaeological and ethnographic collections; the botanical garden; the palace of the people; camayen the mausoleum where is buried Sekou Touré; the great mosque; St. Michael's church. You can also stroll through the colorful markets of the city or stroll through its streets discovering the architecture of buildings, you go to the coast to watch mangroves and swamps, palm trees and coconut palms, visit the Penitentiary and Fotoba the archipelago of Los 7 km off the city. It's also quite a few sites near Conakry worth visiting: Koukoudé the fishing port, the peninsula of Cap Verga, waterfalls of Bridal Veil, Mount Nimba classified to the heritage of UNESCO; Cave Sanama; the fort Boke. Take time to enjoy the lively atmosphere of the capital whose inhabitants are very friendly and warm and do not hesitate to dance or sing at small impromptu gatherings, accompanied by music played on traditional instruments.
