What to do in Cardiff : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of Wales in the United Kingdom, Cardiff has a population of around 315,000. An ancient city founded by the Romans it underwent extreme growth in the 19th Century due to its coal seams and became an important port for coal mining up to the end of the 20th Century. It is nowadays a ‘young’ city and a major cultural, administrative and commercial centre. Cardiff is a multi-faceted jewel to be enjoyed by the visitor; modern architecture and historical monuments, a dynamic and vivacious city centre, peaceful open spaces, a culture rich in legend and history as well as cutting edge technology in the industrial sector. Visit its two thousand year old castle, the National Museum with its impressive collection of works by Renoir, Monet and Cezanne, there is also the Millennium Stadium and Cardiff bay where the old docks have been renovated to provide a tourist complex with water sports facilities. A visit to Queen Street should not be missed; a pedestrian only road that is also the main commercial artery of the city, and do visit Under the Arcades as well as the Victorian Central Market. Cardiff also makes an excellent starting point for exploring the lovely surrounding area; the Glamorgan Valley with its spectacular landscapes, the Brecon Beacons National Park and the lovely castles in the south of Wales are all worth a visit.
