The Capital of Hungary, Budapest has been called the ‘Pearl of the Danube’. Its population is close to two million and the city represents a hub for Central Europe. Highly touristic, Budapest has the reputation of being one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. The dynamic cultural life of this city makes Budapest appealing to diverse types of visitors. Numerous sites are worth a visit including the Royal Castle and fortifications of Buda, the Parliament building with its monumental façade, the Sainte Etienne Basilica, Heroes Square, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Grand Synagogue, the Thermal Baths, and the new National Theatre. A number of museums are definitely noteworthy including the National Museum, the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Decorative Arts. The metro and the tramway are the best ways to travel around the city. Before you leave Budapest do try one of the dozens of thermal baths dotted around the city and take a river boat trip down the Danube to see the city from another angle.
