What to do in Brindisi : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Brindisi is a city in Pouilles, a region in the south of Italy, it has around 90,000 inhabitants. It is a sea resort but also a port city and major industrial centre. It is also popular with tourists due to its lovely climate and sandy beaches along the coastline. To the pleasant climate and exceptional geographical features can be added interesting historical sites. Certain places and buildings are definitely worth taking the time to visit including the church of San Giovanni al Sepolcro, the Roman Column, the Castello Svevo, and the Porta Mesagne dating from the 13th Century. The archaeological site of Egnazia close to the city will enable you to see some fascinating Roman artifacts and you can see other interesting items in the Provincial Archeological Museum and the Ethnic Museum of Civitta Salentina. An excursion outside Brindisi is highly recommended to see the local villages, between the sea and the hills, white against an azure sea. Do try the local cooking; simple dishes that highlight the excellent local produce such as the olive oil and the local wines.
