What to do in Birmingham : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
The second largest city in the United Kingdom, Birmingham has a population of just over one million. Criss-crossed with canals and parks, Birmingham’s roots lie back in the Middle Ages but now it is known for its multi-cultural population with a daily life that mixes past and present in a dynamic force. Famous for the beautiful surrounding countryside and its links to Shakespeare, it has become a popular touristic and cultural centre. Take an enjoyable walk along the sides of its canals, discover the museums such as the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery or the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, stroll around the Botanical gardens and its pedestrian only streets, enjoy the vivacious night life and spend hours browsing and shopping in its streets and shopping centres. If you have time and the opportunity then do visit one of the performances by the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra or the Birmingham Royal Ballet. Leaving the city you can visit the surrounding area, rich in history and heritage and surrounded by lovely countryside that will not fail to please you.
