Basel is a city in Switzerland, located in the northwest of the country, very close to the French and German borders. The city has about 170,000 inhabitants. It is crossed by the Rhine, and its port is also the last of the Rhine where barges can access. The city is bordered by the Jura mountains. Its climate is semi-continental, and temperature differences between winter and summer are quite significant. Basel is accessed by an international airport, but also by the TGV or the motorway network. A number of events attract travelers in the city: the Art Basel, an annual fair dedicated to contemporary European art; carnival, colorful and festive; the Baselworld, a fair dedicated to jewelry and watches. In addition, Basel has a very interesting architectural heritage: You will find in the old town many houses and remarkable buildings, such as the red sandstone cathedral that dates from the early 11th century, the town hall and mingling Gothic renaissance, the remains of ancient walls, the door of Saint-Alban, but there are also several monuments reflecting a contemporary architecture and sometimes avant-garde as the Tinguely Museum, or Messerturm and 105 meters high.
