What to do in Bamako : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of Mali, Bamako is on the banks of the River Niger and has a population of just over two million. A major port but also an administrative and commercial centre, Bamako has experienced a rapid growth. Although its site has been occupied since antiquity, the current city was really built during the 16th Century. Visit the Rose Market in the city centre, the Craft House that has gathered together the numerous crafts practised throughout the country, the Amadou Hampate Ba Cultural Palace where local and international artistic and cultural events are held, the national Museum, the Botanical Gardens, and do not miss a visit to the Koulouba Palace, which is the republic’s presidential seat. The archaeological site will enable you to admire rock paintings. Some of the International cultural events hosted by Bamako include the African Photography Group, the Festival of Reality for the theatre, the International Percussion festival, and the Voices of Bamako Festival. Bamako is a city that symbolises the accelerated development of Mali without forgetting its traditions and roots which give it an attractive and colourful character.
