Located in the north of Belgium, Antwerp has about 500 000 inhabitants, but more than 1.2 million in its metropolitan area. Built along the Scheldt, the city attracts many tourists with its architectural heritage and museums, but also to the diamond district and its massive port. Metros, trams and buses form a dense network that will facilitate your travels around the city, but you may prefer the bicycle sharing system. To access Antwerp, besides the rail (you are 2 hours from Paris by Thalys) and the road, the airport serves many cities in Europe, but you can also land at the Brussels Zaventem International Airport, which is 45 km from the city center. What to see in Antwerp? First, a number of museums deserve your curiosity: the Royal Museum of Fine Arts and its incomparable collection, the Fashion Museum with its 25 000 pieces and history of the garment, the Rubens House dedicated to the famous painter, and who was his home and his workplace, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Diamond Museum, to name a few. But there are also many monuments, traces of a rich past: the remains of the medieval castle; Notre Dame Cathedral, the Gothic jewel; the Saint-Jacques church, St. Paul and St. Andrew in the same architectural style; the Butcher's with its pointed arches; but also many buildings testifying Baroque periods or new art, like the Central Station. Stroll also in the Zuid, trendy and vibrant, living just as the night the day, with its fashion boutiques, bars and galleries. Regarding outputs, Antwerp offers many opportunities, among theaters and cinemas, restaurants and nightclubs.
