The Bahamas profit from almost permanent sunshine although this is not their only advantage: Their temperate climate cooled by the trade winds, warm temperatures in winter, hot but not overbearing temperatures in summer have made this an ideal destination nearly all year round.

Even during the rainy season, between May and November, downfall is generally sporadic especially towards the south. It is still advisable though to avoid this area between June and August as the heat can be a little too much at times but the rest of these territories remain very pleasant and the waters agreeably warm for swimming.

Winter can be a little cool towards the north.

The Bahamas embody our dreams of the ends of the earth under sunshine and blue skies. Symbolic of relaxation and wealth in popular imagination they are however more than just a fiscal paradise. Through discovering them by visiting several islands of this huge archipelago you will no doubt have some pleasant surprises if you tear yourself away from the fantastic swimming pools of the sumptuous luxury hotels.

The Capital, Nassau, is very Americanised although its historical centre is worth a visit, very animated when a boat arrives. The Royal Victoria Garden with its hundreds of tropical plant species is also a pleasant and relaxing place to visit.
The Biminis, to the east of Miami, offer the visitors warm clear waters ideal for diving with many tropical fish, playful dolphins and succulent fresh seafood dishes available at the terrace restaurants.

Grand Bahama is the second most popular island but it has a certain charm away from the crowds with its lovely white sand beaches, tropical forests populated with native wildlife and underwater grottoes.

Long Island has been fairly well protected from the effects of tourism and offers fantastic landscapes of wave washed cliffs, sheltered bays, and turquoise waters lapping on white sand beaches, coral gardens and flocks of wild birds congregating on dunes amongst many other things.

Cat Island and Andros have for now escaped the tourists and you will have a wonderful time

The airline companies coming from North America and the cruise ships provide a frequent and regular service to the Bahamas which possesses 7 international airports and 2 important sea ports, Nassau and Freeport.
European citizens do not require a visa for a stay of less than three months.

The currency commonly used is the Bahamian Dollar which follows the same exchange rates as the American Dollar.
The Bahamas are not a budget destination: An average meal will not cost you less than €20 and a double room around €100.

To travel around in the archipelago the easiest way is to rent a car, buses only operate in Nassau and Freeport. When travelling between the islands, a plane is at times the only solution although you will be obliged to pass through Nassau each time unless a group of you rents a small plane. There are very few boats that provide a regular service between islands.

There are no particular health precautions so simply make sure your normal vaccinations are up to date and protect yourself from the hot sun, always present.
