Norway: Climate & Weather

The Gulf Stream provides Norway with a more temperate climate than might be imagined at this latitude; the weather however is quite variable with a fair amount of rain. Although average summer temperatures remain about 17°C, they can climb to 30°C.

However, in winter temperatures can plunge to –40°C in certain areas! The best time to visit Norway is from May to September although the real tourist season starts mid-June and ends in August.

Winter time is to be avoided unless you are determined to see the Northern Lights (the aurora borealis) as the country slows down somewhat when it comes to lodging, transport and museums.
