Andorra: Climate & Weather

Highly influenced by its altitude at an average of 2,000 metres, the climate in Andorra is however Mediterranean in type; very sunny combining snow in winter and pleasant temperatures even in summer when the maximum does not generally go beyond 30°C.

In winter, temperatures tend to stay between 2 and 15°C. An Atlantic influence does bring fairly regular rainfall balanced by a lovely Mediterranean light.

Spring and autumn are very pleasant with warm temperatures.

Very mountainous, there are 62 peaks over 2000m including Mt Coma Pedrosa rises to 2 946 m. 3 large valleys share the principality, one of them (Madriu-Perafita-Claror) is listed as a World Heritage Site.

The climate is continental: cold and especially snowy winter, hot in summer.

What to do in Andorra

This tiny country nestled in the Pyrenees is well known for its commercial opportunities due to the low taxes but it is also a place that has preserved its natural mountain resources of which a part was recently classified as a World Heritage site.

Its 468 sq. km. make a great short term destination, although some places are extremely interesting, almost to the point of being almost obligatory: The Grandvalira ski resort, the boutiques at Pas de la Case, the Church of San Joan de Caselles at Canillo, a visit to Andorra la Vella, the capital of the country and the VallNord ski resort.

Its natural heritage can be discovered through the eco-touristic circuits hosted by certified guides. Skiing enthusiasts will find fantastic ski runs to enjoy, generally in glorious sunshine.

Andorra: The basics

Its geographic situation does not currently enable Andorra the possibility of having an airport although a project is underway. At present, you can reach Andorra by road: By car through the tunnel situated at the entrance of Pas de la Case if you wish to avoid the Col d’Envalira. By train you can reach the nearby town of Hospìtalet from Paris Austerlitz station and then take a shuttle bus to Andorra from there.

Inside the country there is a very efficient bus service that serves the different valleys for a reasonable price.
European citizens do not require a visa, an identity card is sufficient.
The currency in circulation is the Euro.

The budget required is reasonable, around €45 for a double room in a reasonable establishment and around €15 for a meal (without drinks). Think about taking sufficient funds according to your expected purchases.

Concerning health, there are no particular precautions you should take.

If you plan to visit Andorra for some bargains here are some of the most popular purchases (note that the customs do check the quantity exported): Quality clothing, certain electronic equipment, alcoholic drinks, tobacco and perfume.
