The climate is equatorial with temperatures of around 26°C, all the year with days and nights of equal duration.

Only the rainfall frequency helps to differentiate the seasons of the year: A dry season is from July to March with rains in January and February, and a wet season lasts from April to June The hotter weather is softened on the coast by the trade winds, it is stifling and humid in the forest.

Visit the country is more pleasant during the dry season between August and December.

What to do in Guyana


Cultural diversity and luxuriant nature await you in this department of the French, top of the world.

In Cayenne, you can admire the view climbing to Fort Cépérou, you walk between towering palm three in Place des Palmistes, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of vegetable and fish markets. In a short distance, the beautiful beach of Montjoly is worth to visit.

In the other hand, do not deprive yourself of the pleasure of hiking in the forest: Many paths are organized, indicated with explanatory signs describing the flora and fauna, and you can visit it with or without a guide.
 

Guyana: The basics


There are many flights to Cayenne from France or the U.S.

No visa is required for EU citizens.
The currency in circulation is the Euro.

The budget required is higher than in the mother country, but you can find a decent accommodation for €50 on average and a meal about €15.
Regarding the health, take into account that the vaccination against yellow fever is mandatory. It is also advisable to keep the vaccinations against hepatitis A and B up to date, and also the classic vaccinations. In rural areas, it is important the vaccination against typhoid and a treatment against malaria. If you want to practice hiking, you should consider wear closed walking shoes (protection against insects and ants), take water purification tablets and respect the environment.
To travel within the country, Buses run Cayenne and its surroundings. For the rest of the country, rent a car can be practical. Airplanes serve the main destinations. Sometimes the boat is the only way to access certain areas.
