Capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh has one million three hundred thousand inhabitants. Located in the south, the town is built at the confluence of four rivers, and undergoes a tropical climate with a rainy season from May to October and a dry season a little cooler from November to April.
Known as the Pearl of Asia in the early twentieth century, it has suffered greatly from the presence of the Khmer Rouge until 1979. It is now served by an international airport which connects to a dozen other cities in Asia.
You will find many remnants of French colonization, as the National Museum, the station and the Royal Palace dating from 1866, a multitude of pagodas, the famous Wat Phnom with his legend on the founding of the city, Monument Independence, but also shops selling or manufacturing all kinds of items, or food for pennies.
You'll have no trouble finding accommodation in the city, hotels of all categories or apartments for rent. For your travels, there is no public transport, but you can easily rent a bike, if you get used to the traffic density and the obligation to give way to bigger than you!
