Newcastle upon Tyne is located in the northeast of England, on the north bank of the River Tyne, and has approximately 274,000 inhabitants. An ancient medieval city, from wich it kept the topology, with narrow streets and many stairs, but it also offers beautiful buildings of the 15th and 18th centuries, neoclassical buildings and many green areas. The city has a maritime climate, influenced by the Gulf Stream. It is served by an international airport, a subway offers easy moves from place to place. Besides its undeniable architectural interest, the city offers a rather festive life, due to the presence of many students, and it also has the reputation of being on of the cheapest in the country. What to see in Newcastle: the various castles that dot the city, like that of Alnick, very imposing, and home to many paintings; the Chesters Fort, from Roman times; multiple churches as Durham Cathedral, built in 1093; there are also several interesting museums, such as Beamish Museum which traces the life of the 19th century bedchamber mining and railway; Grey Street, lined with bars and restaurants, is also probably one of the finest in the city. Do not miss the six bridges that cross the river, they are all different and quite remarkable.
