What to do in Halifax : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, Halifax has around 350,000 inhabitants. It is the most populated city on the Canadian Atlantic coastline and is one of the largest fishing ports throughout the world. The oldest English speaking city in Canada, it has numerous tourist attractions. Its symbol is the Clock Tower, built on Citadel Hill overlooking the city. The Citadel itself has been classified a National Historical Monument and is the scene of a programme of events based on the Victorian era. The city centre has many buildings dating from the 18th and 19th Centuries and the port is also an interesting place to visit, particularly its Atlantic Maritime Museum. Theatres and museums are spread around the city which is also the cultural centre of Nova Scotia however sport is not lacking here and numerous champions were born here in the sectors of sailing, swimming and canoeing/kayaking. The climate in Halifax is quite mild compared to the rest of Canada and spring and autumn are particularly pleasant times to discover the city, despite the frequent fog.
