What to do in Cologne : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
A city in Germany, situated in North-Rhine-Westphalia, Cologne has a population of around a million. One of the oldest German cities it was built by the Romans and still has some items remaining from this time such as the Dionysos mosaic in the Roman-Germanic Museum and the ruins of the Eifel Aqueduct ramparts. There are a number of interesting places to visit in the city such as the Gothic Cathedral, and numerous museums including the Perfume Museum, a museum dedicated to the city’s history, the House of Eau de Cologne of course, as well as the zoo, and the twelve Roman basilicas forming part of the medieval city walls. If you are there at the right time do not miss the Cologne Carnival, even older than the city itself and quite spectacular. If you visit the city around October or November you may also have the opportunity to visit the Cologne Art exhibition featuring exhibitors from around the world. Visit also the Augustusburg Castle, on the UNESCO World Heritage List, which is around ten kilometres from the city. Take an enjoyable stroll around the streets of Cologne and see the gaily coloured houses of the city, or go on a river trip on the Rhine that separates the city in two, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars to unwind in.
