What to do in Béziers : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants

BéziersCity of the south of France, located not far from the Mediterranean in the department of Hérault, Béziers counts approximately 75 000 inhabitants. Considered one of the oldest cities in the country, Béziers is known for its vineyards, rugby team and feria. It is built on a small hill and dominates the river Orb and the Canal du Midi, and offers the traveler many traces of its history. You will find in the old town the Chapel of the Penitents Bleus, or Chapel of the Récollets, which is a Gothic construction of the 15th century; the Saint-Jacques Romanesque church of the 11th and 12th centuries and the beautiful garden surrounding it; the Museum of Fine Arts and its collection of works in painting and sculpture of world-famous artists; and of course the Saint-Nazaire cathedral overlooking the city with its towers and battlements, giving it a castle look. Do not miss a walk along the canal to discover the 9 locks of Fonseranes, technical masterpiece that allows a vertical drop of over 21 meters. To see also, the old bridge of the 7th century, the flower market which is held every Friday under the very old plane trees of the alleys Paul Riquet; the poets' plateau, a large English park and its statues of poets, and that of Pierre-Paul Riquet, creator of the Canal du Midi. You can also enjoy several festive events, such as the Winter Flamenco Dance or the summer fair. Access to Béziers via the A9 from Marseille or Perpignan, or by train or plane, landing at Béziers-Cap d'Agde airport. A bus network facilitates travel in the city.
