Aleppo is a city located north of Syria: it has more than a million and a half inhabitants. Reputed to be one of the oldest cities in the world, it was a strategic crossroads for trade in the East for four millennia, and its historic center is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We know its name thanks to the famous Aleppo soap, for whose market it was a nerve center still quite recently. Tourism is still uncommon, but the city has an international airport but its doors and many accommodation and catering facilities can accommodate visitors. There are several sites to visit in Aleppo: the Citadel, overlooking the city, very impressive, with its narrow streets, its keep, its interior castle; the historic center; the covered souks, very extensive and labyrinthine; the Clock Tower; the Armenian Church of the 40 Martyrs and memorial; the Archaeological Museum; Yobulga the hammam whose building dates back 500 years and let you taste the traditional ceremony of the steam bath followed by a massage and a comforting tea; the Great Mosque; Bimaristan the Argun, one of the oldest psychiatric hospitals of the world with its quiet courtyard and fountain, and architecture of the 14th century. To move in the city, walking is very convenient because all sites are grouped pretty, but you can also easily find very inexpensive taxis. You will have no problem finding an accommodation, let alone for eating, local cuisine is delicious. And do not forget to bring remember the famous Aleppo soaps, to buy in the souks!
