What to do in Albi : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants


AlbiIn the Tarn, in the southwest of France, Albi has about 50,000 inhabitants, and its medieval past in a very interesting tourist destination, characterized by its red brick buildings and its Cathar references. You can discover first the pedestrian city center and well preserved, registered elsewhere in the UNESCO heritage, and some outstanding monuments like the imposing Sainte-Cécile cathedral, built from the 13th century, emblem southern Gothic; Old bridge dating from 1035, which was fortified in the 14th century; several mansions of the 15th and 16th centuries, with loggias and towers; timbered houses and corbels, typical of the Renaissance; the Berbie palace with its tower of 50 meters high; Saint-Salvi collegiate church, the oldest church in the city, and its cloister. You can also visit museums such as the Toulouse-Lautrec museum dedicated to the works of the painter, or the Lapérouse museum, presenting the collection of the famous explorer of the 18th century, whose statue stands in the eponymous square. Several parks are ventilate the city: the National Garden and geometric shapes, or the terraced gardens of the Berbie palace, to discover during a tour offered by the tourist office "hidden walk the gardens" or although the "green escape". In addition, events enliven the city throughout the year, like the carnival in February, the Guitar Break in July, the Christmas market in December. To access Albi, one can take the road from Paris (650 km) and Bordeaux (280 km) or the train from Paris via Toulouse, and shuttles are available to join Toulouse airport in about an hour.
