Ajaccio (Corsica)A city that lies between the sea and the mountains, Ajaccio offers visitors the opportunity to discover the town’s relaxed lifestyle and its unusual and delightful light conditions. Stroll around the streets and alleys of the old town, with its statue of Napoleon, then visit the Fesch Museum in the commercial street bearing the same name with its collection of works by celebrated Italian painters. Explore the local daily market with its heady mix of aromas and colours, wander around Napoleon Court, and then enjoy the luxury of relaxing on the lovely beach right in the city centre. On the culinary side, you will find numerous establishments at all levels, from bistros to gastronomic haute cuisine. You will enjoy the terraces that are shaded in summer, heated in winter. Exit the town on the Route des Sanguinaires which follows the coastline and discover around 15 kilometres of superb fine white sand beaches with transparent water and shade provided by palm and eucalyptus trees. A few other things that should not be missed in Ajaccio include; the collection of ancient books in the Municipal Library, the A Bandera Museum devoted to illustrious Corsican figures such as Pascal Paoli and Sampiero Corso, without forgetting Napoleon of course, the Napoleon Salon in the City Hall and the cathedral with its ochre walls and Imperial Chapel.
